The Green Journey

Early 1980’s

Globe initiates multifaceted Recycling Programs:

Inks & Cleaning Solutions — Unused ink is re-mixed to formulate new colors. Waste ink and Press Cleaning Solutions are collected by Gianco Environmental Services, Inc for recycling and incineration; the remaining ash is used for a variety of building products.

Pallet Reuse — All wood pallets for outbound freight is reused or shipped to a recycler for chipping and cogeneration.

Paper and Paper Products — All suitable paper waste from printing and binding operations is collected and recycled. Paper products from the office are similarly collected and integrated into the recycling stream.

Metals — Steel strapping, printing plates and other metals are segregated for outside sources to recycle. Metal drums are returned to the suppliers for refilling.

Glass & Plastic — All glass, plastic and florescent light bulbs are sent to outside sources for recycling.

1989

Fountain Solution — Globe began to investigate ways to eliminate harmful isopropyl alcohol from our press dampening systems. After many trials of research and testing we became one of the first printers in our market to be completely “alcohol-free.”

2001

Plate Technology — Globe installs our first CTP device to embrace Computer-To-Plate technology.

2002

Globe removes all film imaging devices, eliminating film and the chemical processing required. Today, 100% of our projects utilize the industries most advanced, CTP film-less workflow.

Fall 2006

Globe begins negotiations with Community Energy to purchase 837,300 Kilowatts of Electricity. By Converting to this Clean, Renewable Wind Generated Energy, we eliminate 1,111,523 Pounds of Carbon Dioxide, 6,405 Pounds Sulfur Dioxide, and 2,084 Pounds Nitrogen Oxide Per Year. That compares to not driving 964,372 miles OR removing 60 vehicles from our roadways OR Planting 75,614 new trees every year.

October 2006

Forest Stewardship Council — Globe receives Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain-of-custody certification. Our certification was completed through the Smart Wood program and The Rainforest Alliance. We are proud of our involvement in the promotion of responsible forest management practices.

May 2007

Printed using 100% Wind Energy — Globe signs contract to convert 100% of our carbon based electricity usage to clean renewable Wind Power. This commitment signifies a multi-year contract with Community Energy a leading supplier of renewable energy to companies such as Whole Foods, Met Life, The State of New Jersey and Penn State University. Globe will be certified to use the “Green-e” logo.
