Globe Lithographing has been on the forefront for environmentally friendly print materials for years. We have gained expertise with a wide variety of papers, inks, and the technologies necessary to achieve printing excellence using such materials. Our sales and production staff stays up-to-date on the latest developments in the field, and are dedicated to help you make environmentally informed choices for your printing requirements.
Despite significant advances in the industry, much work remains to be done. Achieving our long-term environmental goals requires a team commitment and ongoing cooperation with employees, suppliers, clients and our industry peers. Globe Litho continues to foster such relationships, and to promote environmental awareness within the industry and the community at large.
Here are some of the initiatives we have taken to become Green:
Emissions and Resource Consumption: Energy
Globe’s focus on the environment reaches into all corners of the facility. Our state of the art 55,000 square foot facility is computer controlled for heat and air-conditioning to ensure optimal energy efficiency. The office lighting has been replaced with parabolic fluorescent lighting to reduce the number of fluorescent bulbs required for adequate lighting.
Environmentally Friendly Paper
Globe actively promotes the use of recycled and Forest Stewardship Council certified papers in the marketplace through our ROF Program (Reduced Organic Fiber). This program encourages our sales staff to propose a ROF paper with higher recycled and/or FSC certified content. At this time, approximately 60% of jobs printed at Globe use paper containing a minimum of 10% post-consumer recycled content. We are working hard to increase our clients’ use of papers that are recycled or from responsibly harvested sources. We hope that in the future, we can say that 100% of the papers we use come fromenvironmentally sound sources.
Inks
Globe utilizes inks that contain limited ozone-damaging petroleum distillates and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Vegetable based inks are used for the majority of production. The suitability of such inks for a particular print project, however, is affected by the technical requirements of the job and the client’s objectives. By communicating expectations and objectives, concerned clients can be assisted in making the best choice. At the same time, we will continue to work with our suppliers in the quest for the most environmentally sound formulations.
Press Rags and Uniforms
Globe utilizes the services of Domestic Uniform, Inc. to reduced the environmental impact of our shop towels. Domestic Uniform is certified by both the State of New Jersey and the Environmental Protection Agency The used towels are collected, washed, sanitized and returned for reuse.
Office Initiatives
All of Globe’s office operations use FSC certified recycled paper in printers and copiers. We have installed double sided printing capability on our office printers wherever possible, to reduce our office paper consumption. We are aiming to reduce our office paper consumption by 40% in 2007 compared with 2006 through a variety of strategies including double-sided printing. Another office initiative was the switch to an FSC certified fair traded variety of office coffee, as part of a move toward sustainable purchasing throughout our organization.
At Globe, we strongly believe that together we can make a differerence for a sustainable future.
